U.S. Chamber Accreditation is a voluntary quality program run by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, introduced in 1964. It is not a license, not a legal status, and not required in order to operate — but it is the only program of its kind in the country.

The U.S. Chamber reports that 191 chambers currently hold the distinction, out of approximately 7,000 chambers in the United States. That is the single most useful fact about the program: accreditation is a genuine differentiator precisely because most chambers do not have it.
A chamber must meet minimum standards across its operations and programs, including governance, finance, human resources, government affairs, communications, and technology. A full financial audit conducted by a CPA is a stated minimum requirement that must be met without exception.
Applications are evaluated by U.S. Chamber staff, an independent accrediting consultant, and the U.S. Chamber Accrediting Board.
Local and regional chambers are rated on the percentage of total points achieved.
The U.S. Chamber lists the application fee as $699 for U.S. Chamber members and $1,199 for non-members. The self-review typically takes six to nine months to prepare, and processing takes approximately two months after submission. Most of the six-to-nine-month preparation window goes on assembling evidence — governance records, financial statements, membership and retention data, communications output, program results — rather than on changing how the chamber operates.
